Vacant Titular Sees and Cardinal Titular Titles (28 Jun 04)
Version 2.2.1 re-introduces vacant see lists.
At the moment one central list is not available - but I hope to bring that feature back in the near future.
Two new lists have been added, Vacant Titular Sees and
Vacant Cardinal Titular Titles.
In addition, vacant sees in each country are listed on a separate page.
This page can be found off the main country page, dioceses section, and the link "Currently Vacant".
Cardinal Titular Titles (5 Jun 04)
Version 2.2.0 provides initial support for cardinal titular titles.
Initially only current Cardinals are listed - as time permits historical information will be added.
I'm still working on exactly how to handle Cardinal-Bishops. Currently they continue to use
the suburbican see entry rather than a cardinal title entry - but that is likely to change soon.
Titular Sees (5 Nov 03)
Version 2.1.3 provides initial support for a new scheme to handle titular sees.
While the support is now in place, it will take an extended amount of time to adjust the data.
The main effect is that many titular sees will incorrectly say "Vacant" and will lack proper
references to the current and past ordinaries. Over time this will be fixed.
One other change - relating to the previous (v2.1.1) note - the "ln*" series has been renamed
again - and now are modeled after the bishop index scheme.
Bishop and Diocese Index Pages (21 Sep 03)
Version 2.1.1 has renamed the bishop and diocese index pages.
This was done to avoid a filename conflict issue.
Pages with the previous name of "blall*" are now "la*". "bllive*" becomes "ll*". "bldead*" is now "ld*".
In the diocese subdirectory the index pages went from "dlname*" to "ln*".
Country-Event Pages (23 Jan 02)
Version 2.0.8 has added a new feature to the country pages.
This new page shows the last 25 or so events which involved bishops from the given country.
Note: this change is being phased in and will appear whenever a revision for a country is made.
Events-by-Date Pages (23 Jan 02)
Version 2.0.8 makes two major adjustments to these pages.
First, the main pages now only include events about bishops that are currently alive.
This change was primarily made because the pages were growing too large to be useful.
Second, the "birthday/anniversary" pages are suppressed.
This was done simply because there was no longer a need for the smaller subset since the main pages had been
greatly reduced in size.
Note: this change is being phased in and will appear whenever an impacted page is revised.
Consistories (6 Dec 02)
Version 2.0.4 of the code modifies the way of handling deceased Cardinals.
Up to this time a set of pages similar to those for living Cardinals was used.
However, due to the increased number of historical cardinals being added,
these pages were becoming excessively large (over 150k each).
Now one page lists all covered consistories.
Each year that had one (or more) consistory is listed like this.
Orders (updated 22 Nov 02)
Beginning with version 2.0.1 of the web code, a new method of handing religious orders
is being introduced.
Over the next several weeks/months all the orders will be converted into the new method.
The old list will remain until the process is complete.
The new list only shows those that have so far been
converted (the top 10 as of this writing).
bdlast (22 Nov 02)
"bdlast" is back.
Now it is simply an automated forward to the most recent "bd" (Build Data) report.
It can be found here.
Flashback (18 Nov 02)
The final version of the original web site (6 total pages :-) have been posted just for fun.
The main page can be found here.
(Of course, the information is very very out of date.)
Roman Curia (updated 29 Oct 02)
A new release of the project code (v1.9.9) now splits out "Roman Curia".
At this time, all the current major curial offices are shown, but only about 25% of diplomatic posts.
In the coming months/years this will be expanded.
Most curial offices are shown under the pseudo-country "Roman Curia".
Diplomatic posts are listed on the specific country's main page and here.
Searching (29 Sep 02)
The search applet (HouseSpider) has been upgraded to version 4.3.
This version has smaller data files (by about 40%) and now permits logical operations.
A search specific help page has been added.
cay and n Event pages (14 Aug 02)
Two new types of event pages have been introduced.
The "cay" pages are by date and list birthdays and anniversaries of living bishops.
The "n" pages are by year and are a simple Necrology by date.
The World!!! (5 Aug 02)
A very major update is underway. The web site is being expanded to cover the entire world.
Only current information is available for most dioceses however.
Age Test (updated 20 Jul 02)
This is the same test that was released months ago.
The only minor update (already in place on the web site) is a fix for Netscape 4.x browsers.
It shows example calls
to the age.js JavaScript routine.
This was added back because several people have asked for it :-)
Testing, Eastern Churches (15 Jun 02)
I've added another test - but this time not of technology but of "style"?
In anticipation of the site expansions, I'm beginning to explore how to properly represent the
Eastern Catholic Churhes.
At the moment I'm thinking of having the "Quick Overview" basically be the form for Latin/Western side,
but showing the Eastern side something like this.
Beware the links are fake and few dioceses are listed.
This is just a presentation of the style I'm thinking of using.
Now the questions:
Does it seem to reasonably portray the situation?
Am I using the proper terms?
if you are looking for an eparchy, could you navigate this type of layout?
should eparchies which are suffragans of Latin dioceses by shown on "Quick Overview" (as they are now)?
Thanks!!!
Very Early Test (4 Jun 02)
Yet another early test is available.
This one relates to a possible future scheme called "LangSys" (Language System) which would
allow some of the content on the site to appear in the users choosen language.
The system is written in javascript.
At this point it looks promising, but I doubt any fuller test will be available until the fall.
The main test page is here.
Site Adjustments
A number of adjustmemnts have been made to reduce some of the file sizes on the site.
HTML Touchups
Several minor technical adjustments have been made to the template used to create the web pages for this site.
As pages are updated with this new template some of the more obscure rendering bugs will hopefully be fixed.
New Help Page
A new help page has been added.
Its contents are still in development.
Eventually the counter in the lower right hand corner of most pages on the site will be replaced with a reference to this new help page.
New name!!! --- Catholic-Hierarchy ---
Unfortunately it generally takes the major search engines several weeks to find a new domain name.
A "preview release" of CCIE (Catholic Church In Europe) is now available.
It will not be released in this form, but, rather will be integrated into this site.
